Verizon Fios Users Across The Northeast Affected By Internet Outage

Verizon Fios internet was out of service for millions of people on the East Coast on Tuesday morning at the early hours.

The impacted region, according to a map of users’ reports on Downdetector, ranges approximately from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Richmond, Virginia.

A Verizon spokesperson told Newsweek in an emailed statement at 7 a.m. EST: Earlier this morning, a network problem affected Verizon Fios service in the northeast region for a brief time.

Once the problem was detected, our engineering groups were able to promptly resolve the problem and return the service to normal.”

The outages were most reported between midnight and 2 a.m. ET, as the network was flooded with thousands of complaints, as per Downdetector, a third-party website that monitors service outages in real-time.

Of these complaints, 90% are about the internet services, 9% said it was a ‘total blackout’ and 1% for TV streaming. In addition to the strip of the East Coast, there seems to be an influence in a strip of southern Kansas, as the map suggests.

A user on X in Maryland posted an update from Verizon which said that repairs had begun at 10:50 p.m.

ET, with service to be resumed at 10:58 a.m. ET on Tuesday. Verizon Fios is a telecommunications service that offers Internet, television, and telephone services via fiber-optic technology.

It is a leading mobile services provider company in the country. Newsweek contacted Verizon for more information via email on Tuesday after working hours.

Outage.Report, another online tracker, also said that it received outrage reports for Verizon Fios in approximately 26 cities. Other major internet service providers like AT&T, Cox and Xfinity also registered an increase in the reported outages, as per Downdetector.

Some of the comments on the site pointed out that internet had been off for hours and others complained that Verizon had not said anything about it up to 3 a.m. ET. “@Verizon FiOS network has been out for almost 2 hours now and there is no mention of it by them or @VerizonSupport,” read one comment.

“So. Extensive Fios internet disruption with no word from Verizon all this time. It’s been over an hour. It appears that they are not even greeting anybody. It’s mostly the east coast/DMV area.

It is a little worrying,” another person said. Verizon is responding to specific users in its Verizon Support X page, requesting that they message it for help, although the company has not publicly addressed the issue yet.

Verizon has had several outages in the U.S. in the past few months, including in September and October.

Is Verizon Wi-fi Down?

Yes. Verizon Fios is a triple play service, which is a combination of Internet access, telephone and television provided by Verizon Communications through fiber optical network within the United States.

The current Fios outage implies that only a number of customers in the East Coast can have access to Wi-Fi.
