On CBS’ new reality competition series a group of strangers also have to travel together to the summit of a mountain in the southern alps of New Zealand. Yet, only a lucky few will ever actually get to “The Summit.”
Contestants take $1 million cash prize divided equally among them in bags as they go through several checkpoint camps during the journey.
And then at the camps they must vote each other out. On their journey they must get past hurdles and are compelled to make the decisions that come with what is called The Mountain Watch.
If all of the remaining contestants do not make it to the peak of Mount Head within 14 days, none of them receives any money.
Who is the Host of ‘The Summit’ ?
When the programme starts on Sunday’s première episode, 16 players start the journey of a life time and by the recap only 14 players are shown.
Here’s what happened. If you do not like a story being spoiled this is not the story for you.
What went down during the ‘The Summit’ premiere?
As with all games the teams start to get chaotic pretty soon as some of the members are slower physically and some members start developing differing opinions. Nevertheless, they are compelled to form pairs during the first task which was walking on a rope bridge.
The first candidate is Beckylee Rawls, 29 years old construction worker from San Diego who is to pass the obstacle with the team.
Rose Mattie has to determine which two get across next after getting across with an Arizona army veteran.
When a medical evacuation occurs and 15 players are left, Rawls understands that one of them will be left behind.
59 year-old East Texas teacher Bo Martin is a man who is all alone in the end, when all other people are on the other side.
Then “The Mountain Keeper” gives the group their first difficult decision: This will involve leaving Martin behind if the group needs to increase the tempo or else assistance in crossing.
Even though the majority believed Martin was holding them back, they decide to wait for no man.
Completing the first obstacle the group does not make the first checkpoint camp for the night and sets up bivy sleeping sacks on trail.
How many were medically evacuated from ‘The Summit’ ?
The first contestant to leave the season was media director Tony Reyes, aged 36, who fainted on the day one.
The journey became too much on the marathon runner from Austin who told us he would be fine if we waited for 5 more minutes. In the end, medical staff had to take him out of the game despite Reyes’ insistence.
“Tony didn’t quit. His body let him down,” Martin said. ‘This hit at home because that can be any among us.’
With his departure went the money that he was carrying, and the prize pool fell to $937,500. The prize money only reduces when a participant chooses to be expelled or when he or she is removed due to health issues and not by being ejected by fellow housemates.
Which housemate was ejected from ‘The Summit’?
On the second day of the event, the group got to the first of nine checkpoints-camp where they were fed with food and wine.
Their joyous moment was barely recognizable when host Manu Bennett announced that out of them, they would vote a contestant out and split the money.
Martin became the obvious candidate until poor Mattie was fired for having offended several others. Mattie said she wanted to vote against MMA referee Jennye Stirlen, whom she claimed is bossy.
However, unlike “Survivor,” there is no vote by a secret ballot so the players are made to vote in the presence of other players.
At the end of the show, all the judges gave their votes to Mattie while one mother, Amy Stephens, a bank manager from South Carolina, stood by her daughter.
Mattie poured the contents of her purse into the cash register and said ‘bye to a distraught Stephens, but shooed everyone else away from the counter.
They further said I didn’t want their fake hugs. And instead of he: “Do you want to get the knife out of my back?” These words were said in Maties confessional. The mountain will reveal the nature of people. Stay true to who you are.”
