New Delhi: Dinesh Trivedi, the TMC Rajya Sabha MP, very close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, announced her resignation during the budget session.
Trivedi, who was the Railway Minister in the UPA government, said during the proceedings of the House, ‘Atrocities are increasing in my Bengal and I am not able to do anything. I feel weird sitting here. My conscience is telling me that if I am unable to do anything, I should resign. Later in the evening, he submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.
Speaking to the news agency, he said, ‘This was my conscience’s voice. Seeing what is happening in Bengal in particular, I could not sit quietly in Parliament. I had no stage where I could raise my voice. I cannot do injustice to Bengal. ‘He said, ‘The way violence is happening in my province (Bengal). I feel weird sitting here. We come from the province from where Rabindranath Tagore, Subhash Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose. We are all for the birthplace. Therefore, I cannot see it now. I am in a party and have some rules, but now I feel suffocated that we are not able to do anything. At the same time, atrocities are increasing in Bengal. The voice of my soul is saying that sitting here, sit quietly and do nothing, then resign from here. I will continue to work for Bengal.
He further said, ‘I am not the only one who feels this. There are more people in the party who are in my kind of suffocation. We joined the party after seeing Mamata Banerjee, but now she is no longer her party.
TMC party Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said that people like Trivedi enjoy power during their tenure and leave the party at the time of elections. If they have a complaint, then this matter should be taken up with the party.
BJP national general secretary and party’s Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya praised Dinesh Trivedi and said that he is a good leader. There has been no talk to him about joining the BJP. If he wants to join our party, he will be welcomed.
