The Pune unit of the Serum Institute of India, which manufactures Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Kovid vaccine in India, caught fire on Thursday.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said, ‘We were informed of a fire in a building of Serum Institute at 2.45 pm. The police and fire brigade immediately reached the spot. All people have been evacuated. The fire will be extinguished in 1 hour. Vaccine plant or storage was not being done in this building.
“After the fire is extinguished, the police investigation will begin,” he said. We will examine every aspect. Construction work was going on in this building.
According to Mayor Muralidhar Mahol, the fire started in the Manjari plant of Serum Institute of India. According to the fire department, the fire started on the fifth floor of the recently constructed building. Currently, five to ten fire engines are engaged in extinguishing fire in SII.
